  History

AHO Women's rugby became a Club Sport at Appalachian State University in the Fall of 1997. A few of the founding mothers are KB Hoffman, Bri Young, Tripp Andrews and Betsy. KB and Bri both played all 4 years of their college career.

AHO’s very first formulated game was against Elon. They also played in the Atlanta tournament which is remembered to be the muddiest game they ever played. Ken Muir (formerly known as Doc) resided as AHO’s coach and mentor in the 1998-1999 season and continues to this day to uphold that position.

In the years following, AHO has had victories and losses, but some that strike out the most happened in the years 2000-2001. During this season, AHO Women won our annual Rucktoberfest Tournament in a game vs. then nationally ranked Tennessee. AHO Women also advanced to the Division 1 Championships in 2001 and lost to long time rival UNC 17-7.
